The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Personal Growth and Wellbeing is designed to help students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to manage the challenges of everyday life. Students will explore physical, emotional and social wellbeing, relationships, personal identity and resilience, while developing communication, teamwork, problem-solving and self-management skills. The course encourages students to become confident, independent and reflective individuals, preparing them for further study, apprenticeships and future employment
Rationale
The Personal Growth and Wellbeing course is designed to support students in developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to succeed both in education and beyond. Students will gain an understanding of physical, emotional and social wellbeing, learning how lifestyle choices, relationships and personal decisions can impact their health, wellbeing and future opportunities.
The course begins by exploring physical health and wellbeing, including healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise, personal safety and strategies for maintaining good health. Learning then develops through emotional and social wellbeing, where students investigate relationships, mental health, resilience and strategies for managing change and life's challenges. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences while developing practical skills that can be applied in everyday situations.
As the course progresses, learners explore topics such as personal identity, rights and responsibilities, respect for others and developing resilience. Students consider how their values, experiences and choices shape who they are, while learning how to contribute positively to their communities and wider society. Throughout the programme, learners are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and self-awareness.
The qualification is assessed through a variety of coursework-based assignments, presentations, discussions, projects and personal reflections, allowing students to demonstrate their learning through practical application rather than examinations. This vocational approach enables learners to develop valuable transferable skills including communication, teamwork, organisation, research, decision-making and problem-solving.
The course provides an excellent foundation for progression to further study, including Level 3 Health and Social Care, Early Years, Public Services and other vocational pathways. It also supports progression to college courses, apprenticeships and employment by equipping students with the personal, social and employability skills needed to thrive in modern society
