Covid update - July 2021

Reopening Roadmap – Step 4 – July 19th

Following the Government’s announcement that restrictions are to be further eased, we have been reviewing our policies, procedures and protocols. We appreciate that our members will have differing opinions on how we might move forward and, in the weeks ahead, we will do our very best to open things up further, while retaining some measures that we feel are reasonable and proportional in the current climate:

  • We will continue to manage the facility to make maximum use of the space we have available. We have made numerous changes to avoid overcrowding and we will keep these measures in place for the foreseeable future. We ask all our members to respect the personal space of others and maintain distancing, whenever and wherever possible.
  • The arrangement of our three gyms will not be changing for the time being. Restrictions on occupancy numbers in both the weights room and the downstairs gym will be lifted.
  • Group-exercise class numbers will increase slightly. Over the last few months, numbers have been capped at 14. Pre-Covid, maximum capacity was 24. We will increase class numbers to 17/18 (dependent on activity type) and will retain a grid marking system so that individual spaces are apparent. We normally expect demand to decrease slightly over the summer period, so we think that these numbers should pretty much allow access for all who want to take part.
  • Our current group exercise timetable will remain in place for the rest of July and throughout August. We will maintain a gap between classes to avoid congestion outside of the dance studio. Please do not arrive earlier than five minutes before the start of a class.
  • Our sauna and steam rooms will reopen. We have recently installed a new door-security system which will allow us to better control access. Key fobs are available from reception and new protocols are in place. Please ask at reception for details. We will close the sauna and steam rooms one hour before the leisure centre, to allow for additional cleaning.
  • We recommend the use of face coverings in circumstances where personal space is limited. We ask that all of our members are mindful of others who may not share their own views on the wearing of masks. All leisure centre staff will continue to wear face coverings whenever practicable.
  • We can now accept bookings for indoor adult sport, without restrictions on group numbers. Indoor football can resume.
  • Changing rooms and showers will fully reopen. All lockers will be available. We still recommend that members do not use the changing rooms unless absolutely necessary.
  • We will continue to open doors and windows, as well as running all our ventilation systems at maximum capacity.
  • Hygiene protocols will remain in place. We will continue to provide hand sanitation stations and we ask that all members continue to use these and also wipe down all equipment after every use.
  • Members need to swipe in at reception, as usual, and should refrain from visiting if they feel unwell.

We hope that these measures will allow us to open things up further in a safe and measured way. We will continue to monitor developments over the coming weeks and, during this period, ask that all users of the leisure centre continue to show tolerance and understanding towards others. Hopefully we’ll be able to take further steps towards normality in the autumn. Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff if you have any questions or comments.
