PSHE & RSE

Promoting the health and wellbeing of our pupils is an important part of their education. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education provision is delivered to students through stand alone lessons at key stage 3 and through tutorial, focus days, external visitors and workshops across all years. From September 2021 KS4 students will also receive timetabled PSHE lessons. Our PSHE curriculum covers the broad topics of relationships, physical health and mental wellbeing, British values and building for the future. The overarching goal of the PSHE course is to help pupils make safe and informed decisions during their school and adult lives while always striving to develop personal attributes such as kindness, integrity and honesty. We know that the best way to achieve these goals is through a united approach between school, parents/carers and the local community.

The Department for Education have made Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) a statutory subject to be delivered in schools from September 2020. RSE at The Marsh Academy is delivered through the PSHE, Science and Religious Studies curriculums. RSE content is planned to be delivered in an appropriate and timely manner based on students’ maturity levels, educational needs or religious / cultural backgrounds and using the current language to support their understanding. We would like to invite parents to look at our RSE policy, as well as the statutory content of the RSE provision offered through our PSHE programme and get in touch if you have any queries. The policy also contains important information for parents who may wish to withdraw their children from sex education lessons.

If you would like to discuss the PSHE or RSE curriculum further please contact Mrs Dampier, SLT lead for PSHE at cdampier@marshacademy.org.uk in the first instance.
