ABOUT THE COURSE

In this course, students will have the opportunity to perform, listen to and compose a variety of genres of music.  Using your own instrument, you will be able to investigate, create and demonstrate your skills - and new skills - in performing, composing and appraising.  The three components of the course are:  Exploring Music Products and Styles, Music SKills Development, Responding to a music brief.  As a musician you will regularly perform in front of others including in school concerts; you will be able to play an instrument to approximately Grade 3 standard already;  you will be a key part of the musical life of the school including at shows and events.

ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW

The course is made up of 3 Components.  Learning is completed in Component 1, followed by a controlled assessment set by the exam board.  Students will demonstrate their understanding by responding to a brief, and they will do this by composing and performing their understanding of their new knowledge.  Learning is then completed in Component 2, also followed by a controlled assessment in the same way.  These units are marked internally but moderated externally.  The final Component 3 is executed in much the same way but is entirely assessed externally by the exam board.
