Business - The Marsh Academy

What is the Intent of the Business Curriculum?

The intent of the Business curriculum is to develop students’ understanding of how the local, national, and global business economy works, equipping students with the appropriate knowledge and skills needed to develop their employability and identify business problems and opportunities.

Our key intentions for students are:

  • to understand business concepts, business terminology, business objectives, the integrated nature of business activity and the impact of business on individuals and wider society
  • to equip students with the skills to apply knowledge and understanding to analysing and evaluating contemporary business issues to diverse types and sizes of businesses in local, national, and global contexts
  • to allow students to investigate and analyse bona fide business opportunities and issues to construct well-argued, well-evidenced, balanced, and structured arguments, demonstrating their depth and breadth of understanding of business.
  • to provide students with a range of quantitative calculations such as calculating percentage change, use of index numbers and averages to evaluate different business scenarios.

Through our curriculum students will understand underlying Business theory and develop the knowledge and skills required to analyse and evaluate this. We want students to be able to think analytically, analyse, reach logical conclusions based on both qualitative and quantitative factors, and make evaluative judgements on future changes to markets and the economy.
