What is the Intent of the Food and Nutrition Curriculum?

The intent of the Food and Nutrition curriculum is to ensure students to develop an understanding of food, healthy eating, food safety, storage, preparation and making skills so that our they can make informed decisions in adult life about the food that they are consuming.

Food and Nutrition is a creative, practical and fun subject. It allows students to be imaginative and provides them with hands on experience. Our students use their skills to make products, and these products are taken home and shared with family and friends.  This gives students a real sense of achievement and self-worth, with those of all abilities able to achieve.  The department ensures that our students have a wider understanding of the environmental issues of our choice of foods and why we should encourage people to buy local and seasonally. Our students will cover a range of multicultural dishes and food experiences and how these define our food choices every day. Students will also have a clear understanding of the impact food production and consumption have on the local area and our environment.

Through the Food and Nutrition Curriculum we aim to ensure students at the Marsh Academy get a wide range of creative cooking experiences; learning skills, techniques, and knowledge that they can take with them for life.
