NEWS
May 2010
This term all the mini schools have been extremely busy raising money for our charities: Demelza House, the Make a Wish Foundation, the RNLI and the Down’s Syndrome Association. Activities have included sponsored silences, a very successful non-uniform day and a bucket shake for loose change. All of the mini-schools are planning a last drive to raise as much as possible before presenting cheques to their chosen charities in assemblies towards the end of the academic year.
Our main focus this term has been on improving the standard of uniform and attendance; we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that all students are required to wear full uniform as stated in the Academy Policy.
Since the beginning of term students in Years 10 and 11 have been focusing on preparing for their final exams. All students have received tips on revision skills, as well as clear pencil cases with appropriate equipment. Parents and carers are encouraged to ensure that students bring these with them to the exams. We would like to wish all students every success in their forthcoming examinations!
March 2010
Our thanks go to the Head Girls and Head Boy who have had a busy term organising activities to support our charities. The money that the Yellow Mini-School has raised for Kent Air Ambulance will be handed to them at a celebration assembly next term.
A speaker from the Make a Wish Foundation (www.make-a-wish.org.uk) came to a recent assembly and gave a very moving presentation that focused our minds on the new task of raising funds for the vital activities that they undertake. With this in mind, we have organised a non-uniform day for 1st April to start our fundraising.
We have celebrated real improvements in attendance, with a significant number of students who have between 97 and 100% Attendance. Well done to all those students!
February 2010
Yellow school are very pleased to extend our welcome to our new Assistant Principal Mr Magee. Our students have enjoyed a range of successful activities since the start of the new term; these have included participation in the trip to Buckmore Park to experience the thrills of Kart racing and the day with the Army for a Personal Development Activity.
Our thanks must go to JWY for an excellent assembly on healthy eating trends which was enjoyed by all those present. We all look forward to the other tutor groups’ contribution to our assembly programme.
We continue to focus on good attendance and punctuality to lessons and have a significant number of students who have excellent attendance in spite of still being in the cold and flu season.
December 2009
It has been a very enjoyable term for members of the Yellow school Community. We welcome Mr Chimbizi as a tutor for Ms Dreano’s group while she is on maternity leave. Good attendance continues to be encouraged and in spite of being in the colds and flu season we have significant numbers of students with attendance above 96%. Students have taken part in a wide range of activities, including the Business and Enterprise week, the school concert and sports. In the New Year, our Head Girls and Head Boy will focus on our new charity and begin to discuss with our Mini School Council representatives ways in which students can work with the charity and support them through fund raising ventures and adventures. In the last week of term we have a celebration assembly and individual students will be rewarded for their contribution. Yellow School would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and a good New Year.
October 2009
We are delighted to welcome Karen Todd to the Academy as our new Yellow School Student Development Leader. We are pleased to inform parents that we have 65 students with 100% attendance and 24 students with 98% - well done! For the past two years students and tutors selected Kent Air Ambulance as the mini school charity and raised money to support their important work. We will have a celebration assembly soon to present a cheque to this charity. At our recent school council meeting we decided to give the students the opportunity to consider new charities for the mini school. At the last two assemblies, tutor groups have presented a range of new charities and the mini school have voted and selected the Make a Wish Foundation. The foundation works alongside young people fighting life threatening illnesses. We are very pleased to be associated with this charity. We are in the process of selecting a new Head Girl and Head Boy.
July 2009
The students who have represented Yellow school through their involvement in the mini school council have made a significant contribution this year and we are pleased with the work they have done. We have a large number of students with very good attendance, this includes students who have 100% records for the whole academic year, this is an outstanding effort and will be rewarded at our final assembly.
Our charity work continues, the Non Uniform Day was well supported by Yellow Mini School students and their tutors and money was raised to support Kent Air Ambulance. We are in the process of selecting a new Head girl and Head boy to carry on the work undertaken by our outgoing team of Rhia Hambley and Jake Masidlover. We will be selecting a new team to work as tutor group representatives on the Mini School Council and a new Sports Captain. Elections for these offices will be organised for September.
April 2009
Yellow school has enjoyed a range of successful activities and students have been engaged in preparing tutor group assemblies. Our thanks must go to JWY for an excellent assembly on musical trends, the assembly was enjoyed by all those present and they have been asked by the other mini schools to give the assembly to their students. We continue to focus on attendance and are pleased that we have a significant number of students who have excellent attendance. We will be inviting students to attend our first film club event to celebrate good attendance and a positive approach to their studies. Plans are in place to hold a non uniform day to raise money for our charity, Kent Air Ambulance. This event will be held after half term.
