Sport

Key Stage 3

Year 7 students follow the same games based course in mainly single sex groupings. Football, Hockey, Rugby, Cricket/Rounders, Athletics and Dance/Gym are studied in half termly blocks.

Students who have met foundation course criteria of performance are able to choose a course pathway that extends for years 8 and 9. Students do not all follow the same activities, giving them the ability to specialise in either Gym/Dance, Field Games, Net Games. More time is available in these specialist activities allowing greater progression and developing higher attainment.

All students should aim to study a game activity and four different activity groups for a rounded education. The P.E curriculum is designed around the students' requirements and will continue to develop where practical resources allow. The need for students to develop their attainment during extension activities, out of school clubs and teams and within extra curricular teams and clubs within mini schools, is vital in their progression as sports people.

Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 students opt for certain pathways of P.E course, depending on their level of commitment or individual skills. A Btec first diploma in sport is recommended to those students with a high level of involvement and who gain enjoyment from physical activity. This will allow students 5 lessons a week.

An option course in P.E is for students who want certification for their efforts during 1 lesson a week. A JSLA course is for students who wish to develop a more leadership role within physical activity. A core P.E course is offered to students who wish to follow an non certificated course.

The curriculum is designed for the students to meet their requirements, as well as allowing for opportunities in other activity areas.
