Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning sees the amalgamation of 5 key subject areas; English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and Humanities. Our projects are designed to meet the needs of the National Curriculum and to prepare students with life skills required to access the curriculum in KS4 and beyond. Teaching through projects allows us to create stronger links between the subject coverage and real life scenarios.
Each project investigates a problem. The students are then expected to draw on the knowledge and skills they have learnt in their lessons to solve the problem posed in the project.
This year has seen students working on the following projects:
All about me?
Travel
Dragons' Den
Freedom
Myths & Legends
Lost
ICT plays a crucial role in PBL. Our Marsh Academy Gateway allows students to access the resources they use in class at home and upload work into their class areas ready for assessing. Each student in Yr 7 was issued with a laptop and ICT has been embedded into all the projects.
Alongside the National Curriculum students take part in ‘Learning to Learn’ lessons. These lessons are designed to prepare students with essential skills (known as the 6Rs) required to learn and develop.
