Humanities
Key Stage 3
Students follow an integrated Humanities course, using a thematic approach. Each term the students will investigate a theme and using the skills of Humanities, cover sections which bring in aspects of the department subjects. Research is a key area and students learn how to analyse information and create their own reports using source materials.
Key Stage 4
Students can decide to take a number of GCSE options available in the department.
In History, students study three units:
1. Medicine through time
2. Germany 1919-1945
3. World War 1 and World War 2 coursework
In Geography, students follow a course containing three units:
1. Sustainable decision making
2. Geographical enquiry
3. Geographical themes
Students will be required to show knowledge and understanding and be able to analyse and evaluate information. Students will also follow a one period, non-exam course in Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health education.
Post 16
A range of A level courses are available, all of which consist of one AS and two A2 levels. All prepare students for the advanced level qualification and lead to professional careers and university.
