NEWS

May 2010

This term all the mini schools have been extremely busy raising money for our charities: Demelza House, the Make a Wish Foundation, the RNLI and the Down’s Syndrome Association. Activities have included sponsored silences, a very successful non-uniform day and a bucket shake for loose change. All of the mini-schools are planning a last drive to raise as much as possible before presenting cheques to their chosen charities in assemblies towards the end of the academic year.

Our main focus this term has been on improving the standard of uniform and attendance; we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that all students are required to wear full uniform as stated in the Academy Policy.

Since the beginning of term students in Years 10 and 11 have been focusing on preparing for their final exams. All students have received tips on revision skills, as well as clear pencil cases with appropriate equipment. Parents and carers are encouraged to ensure that students bring these with them to the exams. We would like to wish all students every success in their forthcoming examinations!

March 2010

We are pleased that a large number of pupils have received 100% attendance certificates over the last term; the numbers continue to rise, so well done to all those students who received certificates this term. Congratulations to Keeley Nicholls who scored the highest number of correct answers in the World Maths Day challenge for Year 7. Robyn Corbett in Year 10 was the highest scorer in the Green School with 1299 correct answers - both brilliant achievements!

The Green School non-uniform day on 1st April will be in aid of the Down’s Syndrome Association, which the students chose as their charity at the beginning of term.

February 2010

Several Green School students took part in the Buckmore Park activity and congratulations to those that reached the final. Some Year 10 and 11 students had an enjoyable day with the Army, although the discipline was tough. They quickly learnt how to do press ups! Congratulations to LBG and LSG who won the tutor group award for best attendance in December and January, respectively.

December 2009

We had a special assembly this term in order to present a  cheque for £265.62 to Christine Payne, a representative from the ‘Make a Wish Foundation’. Students watched a moving video to show the work that the charity has done over the last year.

Congratulations to the following tutor groups for the best monthly attendance: GPG – September, JDG – October, JNG – November. We would like to wish all the families of Green School students a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Remember, now is the time to reflect on the things you have achieved in 2009 and make some new resolutions for 2010, to help improve your grades and enjoyment of school.

October 2009

Welcome to all our new Year 7 students and parents. We have started the term by selecting a new Green School charity. All the tutor groups chose a charity to support, they each gave an excellent presentation in assembly and the whole of Green School took part in a ballot and as a result our charity for 2009 – 2010 will be the ‘Down’s Syndrome Association’. We will be presenting a cheque for £265.62 to last year’s charity, the ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation in a future assembly. Congratulations to all the newly elected Council reps and Sports Captains from the tutor groups, we look forward to working with you throughout the year. Our aim is to develop the sporting and social side of life in Green School throughout the following year.

July 2009

Over the year, Green School have collected £247.32 for Make a Wish Charity Appeal. Congratulations to all those who contributed. Welcome to Vince Shell who takes over as Student Development Leader from Kelly Blundred and Caroline McGrath. Thanks to both of them for their hard work. In the final Assembly certificates were awarded to students for 100% attendance this term and for contributions to the work of Green School. We wish all students in Green School a safe and happy holiday.

April 2009

Congratulations to Edward Goddard who has been asked to represent Green School on the full Academy Council until the end of the year. We would like to wish all our Year 11 students the best of luck in all their exams – revise well everyone. Thank you to Jamie Guppy and Demi Richards for being the Sports Captains this year and members of our Council, thanks also to Luke Gregory, who has also been a Council member. Our greatest thanks go to James Reid and Amelia Hetterley who have been exceptionally hard working and effective in their roles as Head Boy and Head Girl.
