NEWS
May 2010
This term all the mini schools have been extremely busy raising money for our charities: Demelza House, the Make a Wish Foundation, the RNLI and the Down’s Syndrome Association. Activities have included sponsored silences, a very successful non-uniform day and a bucket shake for loose change. All of the mini-schools are planning a last drive to raise as much as possible before presenting cheques to their chosen charities in assemblies towards the end of the academic year.
Our main focus this term has been on improving the standard of uniform and attendance; we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that all students are required to wear full uniform as stated in the Academy Policy.
Since the beginning of term students in Years 10 and 11 have been focusing on preparing for their final exams. All students have received tips on revision skills, as well as clear pencil cases with appropriate equipment. Parents and carers are encouraged to ensure that students bring these with them to the exams. We would like to wish all students every success in their forthcoming examinations!
March 2010
We have had a busy and successful term 4 with many achievements by our students both within The Academy and in the wider community: Huge congratulations go to Alex Harrison (BLB) who won both of his matches in the National Judo Competition in March and went on to achieve a gold medal. William Bane (LXHB) auditioned for, and was chosen to act, the lead role in an advert for Port Lympne Animal Parks. We look forward to seeing his advert! Well Done William! Amie-Louise Rawlin scored an amazing 100% in her recent mock PCHEE exam paper – the paper was a recent past GCSE paper marked to
the official GCSE mark scheme, and this mark would equate to an A*! A fantastic achievement and reward for her hard work. Well Done Amie-Louise!
As a mini school we continue to reward and celebrate our successes with certificates and prizes for 100% attendance each term. We are also continuing to support our chosen charity (RNLI) with a non-uniform day on 1st April.
February 2010
Blue Mini School has had a busy term celebrating our successes and enjoying participating in whole school events. Many of our students joined in the voluntary non-uniform day to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.
One of our tutor groups (MGB) chose as their assembly to sponsor a project to ‘send bags to Africa’, they are asking students from all mini schools to support them in collecting items such as rucksacks, writing equipment and toiletries to children in Africa who do not have the basic equipment that they need in every day life.
We are also happy to send congratulations to our Year 11 students who reached their predicted grades in the November Early Entry Maths GCSE.
December 2009
Blue Mini School have had an extremely busy second term where we have celebrated many successes and achievements and are now looking forward to the Christmas period.
As a mini school we raised over £150 for Children in Need, both through a Non-Uniform Day and from a special assembly taken by tutor group (LXHB), a special mention must go to Elysha Burkhardt and her team of helpers who raised over £30 on their own.
Enterprise Week was enjoyed across all year groups; congratulations to Michael Harris (CPB) who was a member of the winning group for the ‘Make Your Mark Challenge’ and also to Lily McLaughlin (ABB) and Rejoice Misi (SCB) who have won a chance to take part in paid work experience with the sponsor company for their enterprise activity.
As part of Blue Mini Schools assembly timetable thanks, must go to AXDB and their tutor for organising a trip to see the St Nicholas’ Friday Night Dance Club, we were very impressed by their talents and the show was enjoyed by everyone.
October 2009
Last year, students in Blue Mini School used their considerable initiative to raise over £350 for Red Nose Day and our chosen charity, the RNLI. It has been decided by the Student Council to continue our association with this worthwhile charity for another year and we look forward to another year of fundraising events. Congratulations go to Ashley Fletcher (BLB) who has been chosen to play for the Kent Football Team, we look forward to tracking the team’s progress throughout the coming season.
July 2009
After a busy and successful year, Blue Mini School would like to wish good luck to all of their Year 11’s in whatever they choose to do next year. Voting has been taking place across the tutor groups and Blue Mini School would like to welcome Tricia McKinley and Lewis Unwin as Sports Captains as well as welcoming Lilly McLaughlin and Alex Harrison as Head Girl and Head Boy, we are looking forward to their help and input towards running events within the mini school. Students within the mini school have recently enjoyed a non uniform day which we used as a chance to raise money and awareness for our charity, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
After an informative and thought provoking assembly led by Ms Cavanagh’s tutor group, fund raising continued throughout the day with a series of sponsored events and a collection of spare change. As a mini school we are preparing to celebrate our achievements with an award assembly held on the last day of term, there have been many nominations from tutors and subject teachers across all categories and of course the final results of our in house tutor group credit competition will be announced on the day.
April 2009
