Art
"Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination."
Key Stage 3
Students have one art lesson each week, which provides an interesting, relevant and accessible curriculum whilst developing thinking skills through a range of materials and techniques. Students are encouraged to develop their curiosity and creativity in an environment that aims to be visually exciting.
Key Stage 4
Art is always a popular choice at GCSE and students continue to use a variety of materials and processes for theme based projects and the study of other artists, designers and craftspeople. Pupils develop their creativity and imagination through sustained activities. Students build on and improve their practical and critical skills and extend their knowledge and experience of materials, processes and practices. The pupils create three units of course work and do one unit which is their final exam.
Post 16
In Post-16 we offer AS/A2 Level Art, at AS Level students are required to complete two units, one unit of which is coursework and the other is a controlled test (exam). During the year students are introduced to a variety of experiences exploring a range of two and three dimensional media, processes and techniques. Students are required to work in fine art, textiles and some 3D.
Students can take this course to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Art , which could lead onto higher education in areas of art and design, photography, architecture or more general higher education courses.
