Advice for Students
Everybody experiences difficulties at some time in their lives. The difference between successful people and others is to be found in the way in which they respond to difficulties.
There is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed about if you need to access specialist help for some problem or other. We hope that we have a culture in the school which encourages everyone to make use of the help we offer.
To be successful in school, both socially and academically, the best advice we can give is:-
• Learn to make use of your teachers' expertise. To do this, you need to communicate well with them. Make eye contact when you speak to teachers, always address them in a pleasant way and you may be surprised by the efforts which will be made on your behalf.
• Try to ask specific questions. It is difficult for teachers to deal with the statement, "I can't understand any of it".
• Keep trying your hardest and make the most of any extra support that the school may put in place
• Your teacher will give you advice on how to improve your work and will set targets for you to aim for
• Make notes on the advice given by your teachers
Most importantly - stay positive – and remember that everyone struggles with some subjects at some point in school.
