STUDENTS LEARN LIFE-SAVING SKILLS IN SCHOOL

Year 9 Health and Social Care students at the Marsh Academy have taken part in the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart programme - delivered by Mike Dadd, a Community Resuscitation Development Officer - learning the skills to keep someone alive in an emergency situation until professional help arrives.

As part of the course, students watched a short film about first aid and CPR before learning how to deal with an unconscious patient. Students then had the chance to practice their CPR skills on mannequins – something that students found both valuable and exhausting!

Maureen Haggie, Health and Social Care teacher, said “the Heartstart initiative is a valuable enrichment activity for our Health and Social Care students, teaching them important skills to help them deal with emergency situations, whether in their future jobs or in their everyday lives. We are very grateful to the British Heart Foundation for coming in to deliver the training.”
