The Marsh Academy

Science News

Welcome to Ms Baldock, Ms Norman and Ms Sohi who joined the Science
Department in September. Over the summer holiday, rooms in Science were refurbished. Two rooms have been knocked into one large lab with exciting ICT developments, projectors and equipment. As a result we can now team teach and pupils are able to experience new opportunities and do more varied activities in the lessons.

It is important that all pupils access the MAG to download the Powerpoints and activities as staff are continuing to move away from the ‘note taking’ lessons, safe in the knowledge that pupils have the required notes available. This has now enabled us to use the information rather than just deliver.

The MAG is crucial to pupil success. Last year, those pupils who used the information available along with past papers and the revision guides (available at £2 each) scored some spectacular successes when compared with targets. In addition, each pupil has projects and ILT that support the learning, these must be done to inform the teacher how best to progress the learning activities.

Finally, on the subject of exams, ALL pupils in Years 9, 10 and 11 have an exam on November 20th. This is a real GCSE exam and worth 10% of the final grade. Science is modular and thus pupils cannot cram in at the last minute, they MUST revise for this exam.......Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.
