English

Fifteen students accompanied Ms Hughes on a school trip to meet some of our most well known contemporary poets, including Gillian Clarke, the Poet Laureate for Wales. The Poetry Live Day was held at Dover Town Hall, where students were able to hear the poets read and comment on their work. There were also question sessions with the poets. Andrew Robertson asked Imtiaz Dhaker about the inspiration behind her poetry and Simon Tallis asked Simon Armitage about the persona he created in "November". The chief examiner for the GCSE English Literature paper was present and gave valuable advice on how to tackle the questions on the exam paper. All students were impeccably behaved and the trip was a great success! Hopefully it will support the students in their final exams.

Maths

Year 7 and 8 students now have Mathletic accounts they can access. Congratulations to all students who have received their Mathletics certificates. Mathletics is an online website – which students can access on the computers in the library before school, breaktime, lunchtime and after school. They are able to compete with students on numeracy from around the world, and also work on aspects within the mathematics curriculum in their own time.
