Message from Robert Alston, Chairman of the Governing Body
Tuesday 6 January 2009
On behalf of the Governing Body, I congratulate the teachers of the Academy on the outstanding results achieved in the first year of operation. They are a first step on the road of proving that there is no reason why the students of Romney Marsh should not do as well as their peers in the rest of Kent. To sustain and build on this progress is the challenge we now face. Everyone at the Academy is determined that our community's students should have every possible chance to realise their potential, whether it is academic or vocational.
2009 will be a major year for us all as the dream of new buildings to replace the existing 1970s buildings starts to become reality. This was one of the key promises made when the Academy was set up. If all goes well, work will begin in the summer. A great deal of planning is needed before then, and a measure of disruption will be inevitable when the work starts. By 2011, however, we hope the Academy will have buildings the community can be proud of and fit for purpose for education in the 21st century.
